And we build on those strengths." - Tammy Shields, Community Action Coordinator In 2015, The North Grove Community Food Centre (formerly Dartmouth North Community Food Centre) opened its doors in a former Sobeys store on Primrose Avenue, in a neighbourhood where poverty and isolation rates are high, and community gathering spaces were few and far between. Since it opened, the Community Food Centre has blossomed into a community hub where people come to share a meal with friends and neighbours, pitch in in the garden, cook up something delicious in the kitchen, and support one another. For many people, it's a second home. Six Primrose tracks the impact the Community Food Centre has had on its neighbourhood through the stories of five people who've played an integral role in making it what it is. The feature-length documentary by filmmakers John Hillis and Hannah Mintzloff of TrueFaux Films beautifully and powerfully captures what can happen when we invest in community spaces where strengths are highlighted, people are welcomed, and food is used as a tool for connection and change. Through its powerful stories, Six Primrose chronicles the dramatic impact accessing healthy food and a social network has had on the people in this community, revealing the Community Food Centre's deep effect on the entire neighbourhood.
